How to build a Sea of Remnants team

Start with role coverage instead of copying a fixed ranking: choose one reliable damage source, add enough survival for the target content, then use support or utility to solve the fight you are actually losing.

This guide describes the current CN progression and role model. Global balance, names, party unlocks and skill values may change. Example templates are jobs—not promises that any named lineup clears every encounter.

The short rule

Damage core + support job + survival plan

  1. 1

    Choose one main damage dealer

Start with a crewmate you own and can realistically invest in. Do not split early materials equally across every damage option.

  2. 2

Add the mechanic your core needs

That may be an amplifier, debuffer, follow-up enabler, damage-over-time enabler, energy support or secondary damage source.

  3. 3

    Protect the run

Use healing, shielding, mitigation or control when survival—not damage—is the actual blocker.

  4. 4

    Use the extra slot deliberately

When a fourth slot is available, add a second damage job or encounter-specific utility rather than the highest-rarity spare.

Party size

Three-member and four-member responsibilities

Early CN progression

Three-member template

  1. Main DPS
  2. Support, enabler or Sub DPS
  3. Sustain, protection or another required mechanic

Before Golden Fruit level 4, the CN progression uses three party positions. Make the core loop work before preparing a full four-member lineup.

After the fourth slot unlocks

Four-member template

  1. Main DPS
  2. Sub DPS or specialist enabler
  3. Support or amplifier
  4. Sustain, protection or flex utility

The fourth slot is flexibility, not an automatic fourth damage dealer. Adjust it when encounter pressure changes.

Role glossary

What each team job means

Main DPS

The primary damage source and usually the first investment priority. The rest of the team should help this role act, scale or survive.

Sub DPS

Adds meaningful damage without consuming every resource or action needed by the main core.

Support

Improves team output through buffs, debuffs, energy, action support or a mechanic-specific trigger.

Sustain

Keeps the team functional through healing, shields, mitigation, protection or recovery.

Utility

Solves a specific encounter with cleanse, control, break support, area damage or another specialist job.

Enabler

Makes a core mechanic work consistently, such as follow-up actions or damage-over-time application and payoff.

Diagnose the blocker

Change one job at a time

The team dies before its plan starts

Add sustain, protection or control. More damage is not the first fix.

The team survives but misses the damage check

Invest in the main damage dealer, then check amplification, debuffs and mechanic uptime.

The core mechanic is inconsistent

Check whether the team has the correct enabler, energy flow and turn order before replacing the main carry.

Upgrades are spread too thin

Reduce the number of competing cores. Characters sharing a primary attribute can compete for the same profession materials during a voyage.

A guide requires a character you do not own

Replace the job and interaction, not the ticket colour alone. Recheck the detailed skill before calling two roles equivalent.

Use your account

Turn the method into a roster check

2. Generate candidates

Use the Team Builder to check role coverage for three- or four-member scenarios.

3. Read visible gaps

If the builder reports a missing role, inspect candidates by job before assuming you need the newest featured crewmate.

4. Plan recruitment last

If recruitment is still necessary, read the Gacha Guide and model the target with your actual pity.

Common questions

Team-building FAQ

What is a good beginner team in Sea of Remnants?

Start with one invested main damage dealer, one support or secondary damage role, and one sustain option. When the fourth slot unlocks, add the job your current encounters expose as missing.

Should I always use four damage characters?

No. More damage slots do not help if the team cannot survive, enable its core mechanic or maintain resources. Reserve room for support and sustain when the encounter requires them.

How do I replace a missing recommended character?

Replace the missing job and mechanic first: healing for healing, protection for burst survival, an amplifier for damage support, or the correct enabler for a follow-up or damage-over-time core.

Is the Team Builder a tier list?

No. It checks current CN role coverage and documented synergy. It does not rank every crewmate or model your equipment, investment and execution.
